Upfront Day 2: Galavisión Unveils Programming Line-up 2002-2003.

Univision Communications Inc. unveiled Galavisión Network’s 2002-2003 schedule of original, first-run Spanish-language programming, including talk, variety and live news shows as well as extensive sports coverage, including Mexican league soccer, to advertisers. Galavisión’s celebrity television personalities were in attendance to help celebrate the new season, including Adela Micha, host of Galavisión’s new live news program “Visión AM,” Gloria Calzada and Alfredo Adame, hosts of highly acclaimed live talk and variety magazine show “Hoy,” and Lucy Pereda, host of home improvement show, “En Casa de Lucy.”

“On April 29th, we introduced the first phase of an expanded lineup of exclusive, first-run Spanish-language programming on Galavisión as part of a strategy to take a more coordinated approach to programming all three of our networks,” said Ray Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer, Univision Television Networks. “The new lineup of enhanced general-interest programming adds alternative formats that complement the Univision and TeleFutura Networks’ schedules. Since the programming change, the new lineup has already expanded Galavisión’s lead as the #1 Spanish-language cable network among Hispanics of all ages with significant viewership increases among Adults 18-49, while allowing Galavisión to maintain its very youthful median age of 31.”

Galavisión’s new lineup will build upon the already successful programming changes implemented in April 2002, which have tremendously increased the network’s viewership:

— “Primero Noticias,” Galavisión’s new live morning news program, has already drawn 100% more Adult 18-49 viewers since its debut.

— “Hoy,” Galavisión’s new daytime talk and variety show, increased viewership 150% among Women 18-49, drawing almost three times as many viewers as the network had previously drawn in that time period.

— Galavisión’s new live daily afternoon news program “Noticiero Con Lolita Ayala,” delivered five times as many Men 18-49, representing a 475% viewership increase compared to previous programming.

— Since its debut, “Noticiero Con Lolita Ayala” delivered more Hispanic Women 18-49 than the general market cable news networks delivered among all U.S. Women 18-49: 33% more women than CNN, 33% more than MSNBC and 355% more than CNBC, during that time period.

“With the Hispanic population growing at six times the rate of the general population, corporate America has begun to recognize the need to change marketing and advertising strategies to successfully reach the Hispanic community,” said Tracey Rivera, National Sales Director, Galavisión. “With Galavisión’s expanded programming lineup, the Univision Network’s continued success and the addition of the TeleFutura Network, as well as the outstanding achievements of the Univision Music Group and Univision Online, we are ideally positioned to offer advertisers unique cross-platform opportunities to directly target the underserved U.S. Hispanic community.”

PROGRAMMING
“The Network’s 2002-2003 schedule will further capitalize on the success of Galavisión’s most popular franchise – Mexican League soccer – with the return of Galavisión’s popular sports programming,” said Margarita Black, Vice President, Programming and Promotion, Galavisión. “With Univision Communication’s unique understanding of the preferences of the U.S. Hispanic audience, and Galavisión’s lineup of sports, comedies and innovative talk and variety shows counter-programming the Univision and TeleFutura Networks, we expect this upcoming year to be a tremendous success.”

Galavisión’s 2002-2003 programming schedule will include the following (all times below are Eastern Daylight Time):

MEXICAN LEAGUE SOCCER
During the 2002-2003 programming season, Galavisión will broadcast more First Division Mexican League soccer than any other U.S. network, during its primetime and weekend lineup, covering approximately 150 live, action-packed, regular and playoff matches taking place throughout the year.
