Univision 41 Soaring In NYC

New York Spanish-language UHF-TV station Univision 41 (WXTV) here made ratings history of a sort yesterday (Tuesday, April 16) when it beat Fox-owned WWOR Channel 9 here and tied Fox-owned WNYW Channel 5 for the second consecutive day. In addition, a number of Univision 41 news programs demolished their competition on CBS- owned WCBS-TV Channel 2 for the second consecutive day according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI) household ratings for New York.
Univision 41 scored a 2.0/5 NSI rating/share sign-on to sign-off (6 am to 2 am) yesterday to trump WWOR/9, which scored 1.5/4. It tied WNYW/5.
Several Univision news programs beat their CBS competition locally for the second consecutive day:
“Noticias 41 al Despertar” beats “CBS 2 News” at 6 am: Univision’s early local news program, “Noticias 41 al Despertar,” beat the competing “CBS 2 News” from 6 am to 7 am by almost 2 to 1. The Univision newscast scored 0.7/3 NSI vs. 0.4/2 for the WCBS/2 program.
“Despierta America” whips the “CBS Early Show”: Univision’s breakfast news program, “Despierta America,” seen 7 am to 10 am, scored 1.6/5 NSI to beat the “CBS Early Show.” The latter, seen 7 am to 9 am, scored 0.6/2.
“Noticias 41” at 6 pm beats “CBS 2 News” at 6 pm: “Noticias 41,” Univision 41’s signature local news program with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller, scored 2.9/6 NSI to beat the 2.3/5 scored by the “CBS2 News” 6 pm local newscast from 6 pm to 6:30 pm yesterday.
Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 73,010.6 TV households.
