TBS Latin America & SKY Expanded Distribution Agreement For CNN en Español.
February 21, 2002
Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) Latin America, Inc. reached a multi-year agreement with SKY during the fourth quarter of 2001 making CNN en Español available on the satellite service’s basic tier in Mexico City and the interior of the country.
As of November 2001, SKY has been offering CNN en Español its basic package, increasing the distribution of the network by placing it in the system’s “FUN” package, which is received by 100% of SKY’s base subscribers. As a result, the total number of CNN en Español subscribers across Mexico at the time jumped to 2.472 million, or 79.74% of the total base for the country, estimated to be 3.15 million households.
“We are pleased to expand our audience to include the basic subscribers of SKY Mexico,” said Luis Bolio, vice president of TBS Latin America, Inc. “We have a long-standing relationship with SKY, and with this new agreement, we are continuing a tradition of growing together.”
“Today, more than ever, it is important that people have access to accurate and credible news programming, and viewers trust CNN en Español to deliver timely, unbiased information.” said Christopher Crommett, executive vice president and general manager of CNN en Español. “We take our responsibility as the world’s news leader very seriously and we will be able to offer our programming to a significantly wider audience through this deal with SKY.”
