Copa Univision San Diego 2002.

As part of a series of local activities created to build excitement for its May broadcast of World Cup 2002, KBNT-TV 17, Univision San Diego presents the “COPA UNIVISION SAN DIEGO,” a soccer tournament to be held the weekend of April 13-14. The Tournament will be held at the Kearny Mesa Park and Recreation Center from 8am to 10pm on Saturday the 13th, and from 10am to 5pm Sunday, the 14th.

The Tournament format will be a 6-on-6 competition with seven divisions open to boys, girls, and adults of various age groups. Each division will have First, Second and Third place winners, who will receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals respectively. In addition, the First place winners will receive jerseys for the entire team.

Adding to the excitement and anticipation, on the last day of the Tournament (Sunday, April 14th), there will be a fabulous give-a-way which will give the public a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win an unforgettable Grand Prize. The Grand Prize consists of an all expense paid trip for two to the World cup in Japan, including airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, and tickets to one game. The lucky person MUST be present to win.

The World Cup 2002 is the most anticipated and watched soccer tournament of all time and the only true world championship. For the very first time, there will be 32 teams competing in two different sites: Japan and South Korea. The World Cup Tournament takes place from May 31st to June 30th. KBNT-TV 17, Univision San Diego will broadcast a number of special programs prior to the live broadcast of the games.
