Interep ‘Power of Urban Radio/Reaching a $572 Billion African-American Marketplace’.

Interep will host its 4th Power of Urban Radio symposium at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on Friday, February 1st, 2002.

Over 350 advertisers, media decision-makers and urban marketers are expected to attend this year’s event, focusing on African-American consumers and Urban Radio. The symposium will kick off Black History Month with a mix of speakers, panel discussions, appearances by radio personalities, and live musical entertainment. Lee Bailey, President of Lee Bailey Communications, and Wendy Wheaton, National Syndicated Personality, will be co-hosting the event. Top executives from the nation’s largest urban broadcasting groups including Radio One and Inner City Broadcasting will be featured speakers, as well as Sidney Miller, Publisher of BRE magazine.

“Most advertisers now recognize the importance of reaching the African-American segment of their customer base. This symposium allows advertisers, media professionals and broadcasters to share the challenges and successes of their ethnic marketing efforts, particularly as it applies to Urban Radio,” said Sherman Kizart, VP/Director of Urban Radio for Interep.

Some of the most prestigious names in African-American marketing have already pledged their support, including Uniworld Group, Don Coleman Advertising, Chisholm Mingo Advertising, Burrell Communications Group, and Target Market News.

Advertisers participating in the event include General Mills, Toyota, Mercedes Benz, KFC, Blimpies, Kmart, Denny’s, Warner Brothers and Hewlett Packard.

Other participants include nationally syndicated radio personalities Walt “Baby” Love of Excelsior Radio Networks, Wendy Williams of Inner City Broadcasting/AURN, Brad Sanders of Baby Sitter Productions, and Diane Blackmon of Blackmon Broadcasting. Also taking part will be Jay Williams, President/AURN and Brenda Freeman, Executive Director Marketing/ABC Radio Networks.
