Fisher-Price To Include Bilingual Infant Toys.

The rapid surge in the U.S. Hispanic population has encouraged Fisher-Price to evaluate and address the growing needs of Spanish speaking children.

As a result, Fisher-Price’s Cookie Shape Surprise, First Words Phone, Sing ‘N Count Sheep and Nursery Rhymes Bus, which were first introduced in 2000 into the Baby Smartronics line, have been enhanced with a special English to Spanish feature. With a simple press of a switch, parents can change the language mode from English to Spanish and vice versa, allowing the children to take their “first steps” towards learning the basics of a whole new language.

“For over 70 years, Fisher-Price has focused on creating developmental toys that stimulate early discoveries and learning, beginning in infancy and throughout the preschool years,” says Jerry Perez, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Design. “The American population has always been comprised of diverse ethnic groups, and in recent years, we have witnessed the growth of the U.S Hispanic community in particular. As part of reaching out to that growing community, we are expanding our language toys to meet the growing needs of the bilingual community. The addition of Spanish to the popular Baby Smartronics line is an important first step.”
