Noticiero 47 Doubles Up Morning News.
October 1, 2001
WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47 has announced that, effective today, October 24, 2001, its daily morning news program, NOTICIERO 47 PRIMERA EDICIÓN, has expanded to a two-hour format, now beginning at 5AM. The announcement was made by Ramon Pineda, Vice President, General Manager of WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47.
Since its launch in January, 2001, Primera Edición has succeeded in capturing nearly a 40% share of the Spanish-language viewing audience during the 6AM-7AM hour. The format will now begin at 5AM in order to provide vital information, news, traffic, and weather to those viewers whose schedules begin even earlier in the day.
“We had intended to launch the two-hour Primera Edición format sooner, but due to the tragic events of September 11th, we chose to delay the launch until now,” said Pineda. “A two-hour format is the natural progression of the morning news, and we’ve heard from our viewers that there is a great demand for a 5AM start,” he continued.
“I am proud of our entire news team for rising to the challenges of the past six weeks, and for working hard toward achieving our goal of becoming the best news organization in New York,” added Ricardo Alvarez, News Director of WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47.
WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47 will now provide a total of 3 ½ hours of news daily, Monday through Friday, the most Spanish-language news coverage in the New York market. In addition to the 2-hour Primera Edición, WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47 also broadcasts Noticiero 47 al Mediodia, a mid-day newscast at 11:30, as well as its award-winning Noticiero 47 en Acción at 6PM and 11PM.
