Discovery Networks LatAM Launch Interactive Programming.
October 1, 2001
Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia has partnered with DIRECTV Latin America to bring interactive programming to Discovery Channel subscribers in Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. Discovery Channel viewers tuning into the program VIDA@LINEA, a weekly series highlighting the changing world of the Information Age, will employ the latest interactive programming to access factoids, quizzes and supplementary information. Interactive programming applications for VIDA@LINEA in Argentina and Venezuela will begin Monday, October 29.
DIRECTV Latin America viewers will be prompted to activate the interactive applications offered exclusively on Discovery Channel’s VIDA@LINEA when an “i” icon appears at the beginning of the program. By simply using their remote control, viewers will be able to tab through six menu options: “Did you know?,” “Trivia,” “Tips,” “This week,” “Sponsors” and “Offers”.
“This strategic partnership with DIRECTV provides us with an opportunity to deliver a unique and complete television experience to Discovery Channel viewers in Latin America by offering interactive elements in our award-winning and compelling real-life programming,” said Luis Silberwasser, vice president, affiliate sales and business development, Discovery Networks Latin America/Iberia. “This launch of interactive content again demonstrates our leadership in the industry, and our commitment to develop new products and services that drive the equity of our brand and our clients’ offerings.”
“We are very excited about this new and unique interactive offer that is now exclusively available to DIRECTV and Discovery Channel viewers. Discovery Channel’s VIDA@LINEA is the perfect platform to launch this initiative. Their viewers will surely enjoy this fun and new enhanced programming option,” said Consuelo Sánchez-Octavio, senior vice president of DIRECTV Latin America. “At DIRECTV we are committed to being at the forefront of interactive television in Brazil and this is the first step toward continuing our expansion of interactive programming offers.”
