Entravision Communications Corporation & Grupo Televisa Joint Marketing & Programming Agreement.
September 22, 2001
Entravision Communications Corporation and Grupo Televisa, S.A. announced that they have entered into a joint marketing and programming agreement between UPN affiliate, XUPN Channel 49, which Entravision operates through a local marketing agreement and Televisa’s Fox affiliate, XETV Channel 6, both serving San Diego. This agreement marks the first JMPA in the San Diego market, the nation’s 26 ranked Designated Market Area [DMA].
Under the agreement, Entravision will oversee the day-to-day operations of XUPN and XETV, including the management of all advertising inventory. Entravision will also serve as the exclusive local advertising sales representative for both stations. In addition, the current operations of XUPN will be integrated into XETV wherever possible.
Walter Ulloa, Chairman and CEO of Entravision, commented, “We have a longstanding relationship with Televisa and the partnering of these two English-language television stations is a logical step given our Spanish-language media focus. By entering into this joint marketing and programming agreement, we expect to drive additional operational and sales efficiencies, while improving XUPN’s and XETV’s ability to serve the San Diego DMA. We look forward to working with Televisa as we implement this JMPA and explore the potential for additional partnerships between our border properties.”
Joanie O’Laughlin, XETV General Manager added, “We are very enthusiastic as well about the joint venture with Entravision. This partnership significantly strengthens the operational position of both stations, while leveraging our audience deliveries to drive our revenues forward.”
Grupo Televisa, S.A. stated, “By aligning with Entravision to jointly market our San Diego stations, we believe we can more effectively promote our brands in this fast-growing market. We and Entravision share the common goal of leveraging our media assets to deliver profitable returns to our shareholders.”
