Herencia To Lead New Hispanic Initiative @ Household International.
September 23, 2001
Household International (NYSE: HI) announced that Roberto R. Herencia will join the company to lead initiatives and programs for the Hispanic market. Most recently, Herencia was the chief operating officer for Banco Popular North America, a subsidiary of Popular Inc. He will report directly to Bobby Mehta, group executive-credit card services.
In this new role, Herencia will be responsible for developing programs that address the unique attributes and needs of U.S. Hispanic consumers, a traditionally underserved market that is growing rapidly.
“Roberto’s extensive experience in serving the Hispanic market makes him ideal to lead this important initiative for Household,” Mehta said. “Under Roberto’s leadership, we will hone our ability to offer financial products and services to this fast-growing group of U.S. consumers.”
In addition to expanding Household’s customer base, this emphasis on Hispanic consumers is also a reflection of the company’s corporate philosophy. For more than 123 years, Household has dedicated itself to offering products and services that help consumers of all backgrounds achieve their financial goals.
Herencia joins Household after 10 years at Popular Inc. and Banco Popular where he served as an executive vice president and member of senior management responsible for the company’s U.S. expansion efforts. As Banco Popular North America’s chief operating officer, Herencia was responsible for the day-to-day operations of its 100-branch network in six states and all lending activities. He also oversaw the activities of Popular Cash Express, a financial services superstore with more than 100 locations in six states. Prior to joining Banco Popular in 1991, Herencia spent 10 years with The First National Bank of Chicago.
