Telemundo 47 Resumes Full Broadcast Capacity.
September 11, 2001
WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47 announced that it is once again available to all households in the tri-state area, including those without cable television subscriptions. The announcement was made by Ramon Pineda, VP, General Manager of WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47. “We accelerated the installation of our new state-of-the-art transmitter so that everyone who has been eagerly awaiting our return to over-the-air broadcasts would not have to miss any more of their favorite programs. We thank everyone in the Hispanic community for their patience and understanding as we worked to correct the transmission problems that occurred as a result of the loss of our antenna when the World Trade Center was destroyed,” said Pineda.
Located in Alpine, NJ, the antenna from which WNJU-TV is transmitting is also currently home to WNBC, WABC, WPIX, and WNET, whose own broadcast capacities were also diminished following the collapse of the WTC.
WNJU-TV/Telemundo 47 is now broadcasting from Alpine, NJ, with sufficient wattage to cover the entire market with a similar, if not higher quality video and audio signal, than the previous antenna/transmitter combination which had been located at the WTC. In fact, some communities are already reporting improved reception of the WNJU-TV signal compared with the period before September 11th, which is a direct benefit of the improved technology.
