The Coca-Cola Company & The College Fund Bring Real-world Lessons To College Students.

The Coca-Cola Company and The College Fund are launching year-two of its internship and scholarship program that links the classroom to the work world, giving people of color the tools they need to succeed in corporate America.

The Coca-Cola Company and The College Fund will kick off the second year of their successful Corporate Intern Program, an initiative that offers 50 students from diverse backgrounds (African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, American Indian, and other ethnic groups) who are college juniors, summer internships and the opportunity to earn an academic scholarship. Students participate in an eight-to-ten week summer internship at The Coca-Cola Company headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. Guided by a Coca-Cola manager and intern mentor, students have the opportunity to work in one of nine areas of the Company: chemistry, communications, engineering, finance, human resources, journalism, information technology, marketing, and business management.

In addition to gaining real work experience with a Fortune 100 corporation, each student will earn a $2,500 monthly internship stipend and will be provided housing and transportation. The students are also eligible to receive a $10,000 scholarship at the conclusion of each of their summer internship assignments. After completing the two-year internship program, students may be considered for full-time employment with the Company.

“We are very proud of the success of the inaugural program. Some of the nation’s brightest students interned with us this past summer and the experiences and the contributions they made to our company speaks volumes to the potential this program has to the future of our organization,” said Charlene Crusoe-Ingram, vice president, Diversity Strategy and Culture, The Coca-Cola Company. “Launching our 2002 program is a wonderful opportunity to continue to reach additional outstanding young people who are interested in a future career at the world’s leading beverage company.”

“The Coca-Cola Company has been a major supporter of The College Fund, and we are proud to be extending this Corporate Intern Program into its second year,” said The College Fund President and CEO, William H. Gray, III. “It gives students of color a resource by which they are able to gain the financial assistance they need to attend college as well as the work experience that is so vital to their success in the corporate world.”

The program was developed as a strategic initiative for The Coca-Cola Company to recruit new employees from universities and colleges that have a more diverse student population. The Company has made a four-year/150 intern commitment to The Corporate Intern Program.

The 2001 class of Corporate Interns participated in meaningful assignments that exposed them to various aspects of the Company’s business.

“It was a great experience to work with professionals in a career field that I’m considering,” said Amondo Redmond, a sophomore at Michigan State University. “My assignment at Coca-Cola North America Consumer Brand Marketing has given me my first chance to find out more about my interests and what I like about it.”
