Terra.com Empowering Hispanic America.
September 1, 2001
In the wake of Sept. 11, many Americans are looking for answers. Some need help in answering their children’s questions and others are asking how they can help.
At http://www.Terra.com/ayuda, Hispanic Americans can find help in dealing with crisis-related issues. Specifically, the site is offering parents of young children information on how to address current issues with their kids. Parents can find culturally relevant information on talking with their children about what has recently occurred and can even submit individual questions on how to respond to their children’s questions.
Dr. Sylvia Fernandez-Fein, who has a master’s and doctoral degree in Applied Developmental Psychology and extensive background in bilingualism and U.S. Hispanics, personally responds to each question within 48-hours. To submit questions on how to respond to your children’s questions regarding crises, contact Dr. Fernandez-Fein at as**************@***ra.com.
According to Dr. Fernandez-Fein, there are two very important points that parents should keep in mind when discussing last week’s events with their children. The first is to make sure you give your children the opportunity to ask you questions about what has happened. The second point is to remember that children will feel safe if you are calm.
Working with America’s parents is one of many ways Terra.com is committed to helping in the wake of Sept. 11. Many teens and young adults have already donated blood and included the victims in their prayers, but still they are not able to contribute like corporations or established adults. The company is about to give young Hispanic Americans an appropriate outlet for involvement and contributions.
To encourage and acknowledge the contributions, commitment and relief efforts of young Hispanic Americans, Terra will launch a series of seven Rock en Español benefit concerts in Los Angeles with an online cause-related component.
Terra.com is donating $1.00 for every vote eligible youth make on the TerraRock voting site to the Hispanic Federation. Voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 16, after the first concert, and ends Friday, Nov. 16, following the last concert. Funds will be used to pay tuition, books and after-school program fees incurred by youth affected by the tragic event of Sept. 11. Terra.com is contributing 100% TerraRock concert proceeds to the relief effort. Additionally, band memorabilia, such as guitars, jackets and drumsticks will be auctioned at the concerts with all the proceeds from the sales to benefit the Hispanic Federation fund.
“Terra.com is fully committed to this country and together with our user audiences, we want to help,” said Manuel Bellod, general manager of Terra.com. ”
As of Friday, Sept. 28., Terra.com donated $2.00 from the sale of each customized solidarity t-shirt to the Hispanic Federation relief effort. The shirts, available at www.terra.com/ayuda, feature the American flag with the slogan “Hispanos Unidos” and a variety of sub-headings and Latin American flags to choose from.
The company is also matching employee donations to the relief efforts, dollar per dollar, and has dedicated Terra.com’s front page to making important up-to-date information available to help people that have been affected or want to know how they can help. Terra Lycos has selected four major organizations that have been heavily involved in the relief effort: American Red Cross, NY Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, NY State Fraternal Order of Police Fund, NY State World Trade Center Relief Fund.
