Univision WXTV-TV Beats CBS 24 Out Of 25 Weekdays In NYC.
August 6, 2001
In a major ratings development, Spanish-language UHF-TV station Univision 41 (WXTV) here, (Thursday, August 30) beat CBS-owned WCBS- TV Channel 2 in the 6 pm local news race according to yesterday’s overnight Nielsen Station Index (NSI) household ratings report. Univision 41 extended its CBS-beating streak to 24 of the past 25 consecutive weekdays. The move is indicative of the shift of Spanish-speaking and bi-lingual audience from the weakest English-language TV stations to Spanish-language broadcasting.
Thursday night, August 30, “Noticias 41,” the local newscast of Univision 41 seen weekdays from 6 pm 6:30 pm with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller, scored a 3.1/7 NSI rating/share to beat the 1.7/4 scored by “News2,” the competing 6 pm local news on CBS- owned WCBS-TV Channel 2, with anchors Ernie Anastos and Dana Tyler.
In addition, Univision 41’s news magazine, “Premier Impacto,” scored 2.7/6 NSI yesterday from 5 pm to 6 pm to beat the 1.8/4 scored by the 5 pm “News 2” on WCBS/2.
Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 73,010.6 TV households.
