Discovery Communications Latin America/Iberia, the Miami-based unit of Discovery Communications Inc. that comprises six television networks plus the Discovery Television Center, announced the promotions of Myrna Renaud to senior vice president of operations for the networks and Marcos Obadia to senior vice president & general manager of the Discovery Television Center. Enrique R. Martinez, senior vice president and general manager for DCLA/I, to whom both report, made the announcement.
Renaud, who joined the company in 1995, previously served as vice president, network/commercial operations. She has played a crucial role in guiding the growth of the division as Discovery’s Latin American operations in the region have grown from two Discovery Channel feeds in 1995 to today’s 16 feeds for six networks, with a corresponding triple-digit increase in ad revenues and spot traffic. In her new role she will oversee an expanded operational infrastructure that adds human resources and administration to her areas of responsibility.
Obadia, who was previously vice president of operations, Discovery Television Center, joined Discovery in 1997 to spearhead the launch of the Center, an all-digital network origination center and post-production facility which originates and transmits 16 feeds for Discovery’s six networks. During his tenure the 50,000-square-foot Center has increased its transmission capacity from 5 feeds in 1997 to 16 feeds today; he has also been instrumental in the development and deployment of digital services and in the launch of interactive and broadband applications with key Discovery clients in Latin America and Iberia.
“Myrna and Marcos enjoy a solid track record in their respective functional areas, making them invaluable members of our senior management team,” commented Martinez. “Their talents and abilities place them in an ideal position to help meet the challenges of a growing business such as ours.”
