Martinez @ Creative Civilization Sparks Creative Talents In ‘SAY Sí Youth Arts Program’.

Martha Martinez, senior art director at Creative Civilization – An Aguilar Agency, has found a new way to reap the rewards of her career in graphic design. Selected as a “visiting artist” for the SAY Sí Youth Arts Program, Martinez has devoted her Saturday mornings to nurturing the artistic instincts of the middle-school youth enrolled in SAY Sí’s (San Antonio Youth Yes) technology-based program.

“It is so rewarding to help make a positive impact on young people,” said Martinez. “These kids are our future graphic designers, filmmakers and web designers.”

The program enables students to learn various multimedia applications, techniques and software. Martinez’ students have worked on many projects including designing a logo for a fictitious company, creating self-portraits, and compiling a book of stories entitled, “My Life So Far.” The students use software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and others to complete their projects, which are often exhibited at the SAY Sí gallery located at the Blue Star Arts Complex.

“Martha was selected for this program because she has such a wide range of experience,” said Jon Hinojosa, executive director, SAY Sí. “Her insight allows her to teach these children a variety of skills that can further develop their innate artistic talents.”

Martinez is a graduate of the University of Illinois School of Art and Design. She has been with Creative Civilization for more than two years and is responsible for the creative work for agency clients such as the San Antonio Express-News, the American Cancer Society and the San Antonio Museum of Art, among others.
