Univision 41 Scores With Copa America.

Spanish-language TV station Univision 41’s (WXTV) inaugural broadcast of the Copa America, the hemispheric championship in professional “futbol,” or “soccer,” as it is called in English, scored big in the overnight Nielsen Station Index ratings. Last night’s (July 12) game, which pitted teams from Mexico and Brazil against each other, scored a 4.0 Nielsen Station Index (NSI) rating and 6 share from 8:30 pm to 11 pm. That’s a 74 percent jump over the 2.3/3 NSI prime time weekday average rating/share Univision 41 scored during the recent May 2001 sweep period.

Meanwhile, Univision 41 made a clean sweep of WCBS-TV Channel 2 in New York’s early evening news races yesterday (July 12). Not coincidentally, yesterday was the 8th weekday of the past dozen in which the 6 pm “Noticias 41” on Univision beat the 6 pm “News 2” on WCBS-TV Channel 2.

Yesterday from 5 pm to 6 pm Univision 41’s newsmagazine “Primer Impacto” scored 2.1/5 NSI to beat WCBS-TV’s 5 pm “News 2.” “News 2” at 5 pm scored 1.5/4.

From 6 pm to 6:30 pm, “Noticias 41” with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller scored 2.8/6 NSI to beat the 1.8/4 scored by “News 2” at 6 pm with anchors Ernie Anastos and Dana Tyler.

And from 6:30 pm to 7 pm, Univision’s network new, “Noticiero Univision” with anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, scored 2.9/6 NSI on Univision 41 to beat the 1.8/4 scored locally by “The CBS Evening News” with Dan Rather.

Each New York Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 69,356.1 TV households.
