La Opinión Takes First Place @ NAHP Best Daily Newspaper Competition.

La Opinión received the top award for “Outstanding Hispanic Daily” at the NAHP 13th annual awards gala held in Miami on April 21. La Opinión also picked up awards for best individual sections, outstanding design and photo honors from the National Association of Hispanic Publications.
Other first place awards the paper received include “Outstanding Business Section”, and “Outstanding Sports Section”. Additionally, the daily reaped praise in the highly competitive category of entertainment with an honorable
mention in the “Outstanding Entertainment Section” for Espectáculos, La Opinión’s Entertainment Section.
In total, La Opinión captured 26 awards, taking 12 First Place honors, nine Second Place awards, and five Honorable Mentions.
“This recognition along with the recently announced circulation increase, scores a `one-two punch’ for La Opinión in an ever-expanding Spanish-speaking market,” notes José Lozano, publisher and CEO of La Opinión. “With the successful debut of several new sections last year adding to our daily and weekend products, we were able to broaden our appeal while maintaining our core readership.”
The NAHP awards were judged by a panel comprised of representatives from the fields of journalism and communications, corporate business and education. The NAHP received over 200 entries from publications nationwide with publications, articles and photos entered in over 60 print categories.
