March 30, 2001
World Television, a multi-ethnic television network operating eight stations that focus on Hispanic and Asian programming in Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix and Tucson, announced the launch of KSFV Channel 26 in Los Angeles. The station, which will offer premium Spanish-language entertainment, movies and popular Central American programming, will officially launch on Monday, April 30 with the debut of its news program, “Noticiero Centroamericano.” The program, which will air Monday-Friday, 7-8pm, is the first and only live Central American newscast in the U.S.
Los Angeles is currently home to over 1.5 million Central Americans, including the largest concentration of Salvadorans outside of San Salvador. According to estimates made by Oscar Benavides, El Salvador’s Consul General to Los Angeles, there will be 900,000 Salvadorans alone in Los Angeles based on the 2000 census to be released in May.
“This vibrant group of Central American viewers and consumers in Los Angeles is increasing significantly every day. It is very exciting to have a station that is not only targeting this demographic, but celebrating their culture as well,” said Benavides.
