La Volpe joins ESPN Deportes.

The former coach of the Mexican National Team, Ricardo La Volpe joins ESPN Deportes and the Futbol Picante team of expert analysts. La Volpe is set to make his debut on the show this Sunday, July 28 at 6 p.m. ET.

“We are very excited with the hiring of La Volpe,” said Armando Benitez, Senior Director of Production for ESPN and ESPN Deportes. “His experience on and off the field will provide a different perspective for our audience, while his comments will add value to our coverage of Mexican and international soccer”

La Volpe is known for his four-year career as head coach of the Mexican national team. As coach, he won with El TRI the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2003 and led them to the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005, followed by the World Cup in Germany in 2006, where he ultimately lost to the team of his native Argentina in a knockout match.

Through his career La Volpe also directed teams such as Atlante, Aguilas del America, Atlas, Guadalajara, Toluca and Boca Junior of Argentina.

A native of Argentina, La Volpe debuted as goalkeeper of Banfield Athletic Club in 1970. In 1975 he joined San Lorenzo de Almagro Athletic Club, where he remained until 1979. That same year, he moved to Mexico, where he played with Atlante until 1982. Finally, his career as goalkeeper ended with Oaxtepec, with whom he played until 1983.
