SXSW introduce SXAméricas

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Conferences & Festivals is internationally renowned to be a stage for innovation in the areas of film, music, interactive technology and more. SXSW is excited to announce its newest initiative, SXAméricas. SXAméricas is a programming track within SXSW that will bring together leaders and innovators from the U.S. and Latin America. This new platform continues to grow upon SXSW’s mission, which is to provide a forum for shared learning, partnerships, and collaborations as an enhanced program to the scheduled event activities.

According to SXSW Executive Director Mike Shea, “SXAméricas isn’t a new SXSW conference or festival, but it is a new approach to making SXSW Music, Film and Interactive more relevant and productive for our Latin American attendees.”

He describes the new initiative as an acknowledgement of SXSW’s international stature. “More than 60 countries were represented at SXSW 2013 including 8 South American nations, as well as Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Spain. The SXAméricas programming will be a chance for Latin Americans, U.S. Latinos and artists to connect and do business within the SXSW framework.”

This year’s inaugural SXAméricas track will be an extension of the SXSW scheduled programming and will include a VIP opening night event, a special featured speaker, roundtable discussions with industry professionals and a closing a musical showcase. The SXAméricas track will take place the evening of Tuesday, March 11 and all day Wednesday, March 12 at the beginning of SXSW  Music.

As Mike Shea explains, “Our role is to find people with similar interests and put them in a room together. As SXSW grows we want to carve out a space for Latin American and U.S. Latinos to interact whether they’re from Miami, Los Angeles, and New York or Sao Paulo, Mexico City, and Madrid.”

SXSW week takes place Friday, March 7 through Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center and venues located throughout downtown.
