Vergara & Fiore for AT&T

AT&T, in an effort to reunite two of the most beloved stars of Spanish-language TV, is rolling out a series of TV ads featuring actress Sofia Vergara and Univision sportscaster Fernando Fiore sharing their passion for soccer.

The two haven’t been seen together on the small screen since the mid-to-late 90’s when they both hosted a popular travel and lifestyle program on the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network in the country. Both stars travelled the world together during the filming of the series and today continue to be very good friends, which can be seen in a very fun and candid way in the commercials.

The spot titled ‘Golazo’ (Super Goal), which will air in the form of 15-second and 30-second TV ads, features both TV personalities in a living room watching soccer. The ad shows Fernando and Sofia cheering their favorite team on after an early goal is scored, and then a reference is made to AT&T’s 4G LTE network, which has more coverage than T-Mobile, is faster than Verizon, and more reliable than everybody*.

Another 15-second spot titled ‘Mas Confiable’ (Most Reliable) features the stars in front of the TV set during a tense, nail-biting penalty kick moment, where Fernando asks “Ay Sofia, who do you think is going to do the penalty kick?” to which Sofia responds “the most reliable player,” a nod to AT&T’s LTE network, which is also the most reliable.

The spots will air from Feb. 3 through the end of the month, leading into the summer’s largest competition on the global soccer stage. All eyes will be on Brazil this summer as dozens of nations compete for the coveted title.

Directed by Emmy Award winner Michael Spiller – known for directing numerous popular primetime shows – these TV spots will make you reminisce about the dynamic chemistry this duo had in the 90s, and still has today. It’s like time hadn’t passed!
