Univision Deportes launches Premios Univision Deportes

Univision Communications Inc announced the launch of Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards), a sports award show for U.S. Hispanics honoring top athletes and teams from the leagues and sports that Hispanics care about most.  The two-hour presentation will celebrate sports figures for their accomplishments on and off the field across multiple sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, football, boxing, auto racing and more. Premios Univision Deportes will take place in Miami and will debut on UniMás on Wednesday, December 18th, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT with a simulcast on UDN (Univision Deportes Network).
 
“As the home of sports for Hispanic America, we are proud to acknowledge and celebrate the athletes and sports talent who make an impact in our communities,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Univision Deportes, the sports division of Univision Communications Inc.  “Creating a show such as Premios Univision Deportes is another great step in delivering the type of engaging content that our viewers are most passionate about.”
 
The award show will be a formal gala and will include musical performances by top Latin artists and a one hour red carpet pre-show to air on UDN.  Awards will be presented by sports legends and Univision talent.
 
Premios Univision Deportes will be awarded to 25 winners for their passion and excellence in sports and their connection to Hispanic American sports fans.  Special categories will include a Lifetime Achievement Award, a Humanitarian Award and a Community Activist Award which will be fan-selected for one exemplary fan who harnesses the power of sports to help their community. Awards will be presented both by fan selection and voting as well as by a diverse committee of leaders in the sports space, including executives, journalists, broadcasters, and retired world class athletes.
