Azteca America launches “Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra” on KAZA

Azteca America’s flagship station, KAZA, premiered “Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra,” a 30-minute live local show hosted by popular sportscaster Troy Santiago, tonight at 9:30 p.m. PT. The only local live Spanish-language sports show broadcast in the Los Angeles market, the program will provide the “Viernes Futbolero” soccer fan an opportunity to get game highlights, stats and analysis, in-depth commentary and closure of the live Mexican League matches that aired minutes prior. The show will also feature guest commentators.

The new program reflects the network’s commitment to outstanding sports programming, arising from the increasing need to provide the Los Angeles Spanish-speaking viewers with live, up-to-the-minute coverage of their favorite sports teams.

“The excitement of Futbol Liga Mexicana (FLM) on Azteca has generated high ratings, consistently ranking number one in Los Angeles, regardless of language, among adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and men 25-54, and with the addition of ‘Tiempo Extra’ immediately after the game, our viewers will be even more informed and engaged about their favorite teams,” said Enrique J. Perez, Executive Vice President, Station Group, Azteca America.

Weekly segments on “Tiempo Extra” will include:

·        “Deporte al Extremo” (Sports to the Extreme) – A showcase of extreme and spectacular sports moments, with vivid commentary from host Troy Santiago.

·        “El Sube y Baja” (The Teeter-Totter) – Describing which teams are earning high marks, and which teams aren’t doing so well.

·        “Cual es la Mejor Jugada” (The Best Play) – Troy Santiago will replay game highlights and analyze the best plays.

·        “El Fan de la Semana” (Fan of the Week) – One lucky fan will be invited to participate live on the show to express their own opinion about the games, and to interact with Troy Santiago.

Additionally, Santiago will engage and motivate the audience to participate in trivia, social media and other platforms to enter to win prizes.

“Futbol is such an integral part of our viewers’ culture and this new live, local sports show speaks directly to providing our audiences with the quality programming our fans expect and deserve,” added Jose Luis Padilla, Vice President and General Manager, KAZA and Regional VP of West Coast Managed Stations, Azteca America. “We are always looking for creative opportunities to grow and expand our network’s local footprint and ‘Tiempo Extra’ fulfills that strategy.”
