Know thy frenemy. Part 2 of 3. Death of Don Draper.

- What kind of innovation can come out of an organization that buries its talent under layers of hierarchy, paperwork, processes and reporting duties?
- So you are a writer, an art director, a designer, a web dev?
- You spend 10 hours a day in a cubicle working for a multinational corporation?
- And you call yourself a creative?
- What kind of creativity can come out of a stale, Taylorist, oppressive, stifling, clerical environment dating back to the mid 20th century?
- Or worse, to the industrial revolution.
- Do we really think a pool table, ping-pong, foosball &/or free sugary snacks will make our talent stay put?
- We’ve seen this quote circulating on social media as of late (I think it was lifted from The Economist):
- “In 2015 Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles.
- Facebook, the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content.
- Alibaba, the most valuable retailer, has no inventory.
- Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate.”
- How long until we see the birth of an agency with no creatives, account executives or media buyers on its payroll?
- Well, they are here already.
- Here’s how they define themselves.

- We are busier than ever.
- We are working remotely, yes: overworking from home, at airports, hotels, restaurants, waiting in line at the grocery store, in traffic, doing 90 mph on the HOV lane.
- 24/7
- It’s a shark eat shark world.
- Don Draper would’ve had a very short shelf life in what remains of Madison Avenue.
- He’d be toast.
- To be continued next week.
