UniMás Network announced that its new, unauthorized series “Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán: El Varón de la Droga” (Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán: The Drug Baron) will premiere in the Fall of 2016. This dramatic series is based on the life of the world’s most powerful drug dealer, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was captured for the third time this past Friday, January 8th in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, nearly six months after his escape from a maximum-security prison in Mexico.
Written by Andrés López López, a former lieutenant to some of the most powerful cartel bosses turned-author and writer of blockbuster hits including “El Cartel de los Sapos” and “El Señor de los Cielos,” the “Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán: El Varón de la Droga” series will bring audiences an extraordinarily authentic view of the inner workings and politics of the drug trafficking subculture.
“The Chapo Guzmán story has been one of the most captivating stories this past year and we are thrilled to bring an inside look into his world to our audiences,” said Alberto Ciurana, president of Programming and Content for Univision Communications Inc. “Our team has been hard at work the past several months developing a story that takes our audiences deep inside the dark and fascinating world of one of the most feared outlaws of all time.”
