Adults Make Most Retail, Restaurant Purchases on Weekends

More adults make restaurant and retail purchases on the weekends than do so during the week, research found.

A study from customer loyalty-based company Thanx looked at 12.8 million customers and 20.1 million transactions across businesses in the restaurant and retail industries. Among those who had made more than one purchase in the six months prior to the analysis, 58% had made retail purchases only on weekends. To compare, just 12% of respondents said had made retail purchases only on weekdays. Nearly one-third had made retail purchases on both a weekday and a weekend.

When it came to restaurant purchases, almost half (48%) of US adults made a purchase only on a weekend. Some 15% made a restaurant purchases only on weekdays, and 37% said they made a purchase on both a weekday and weekend.

While digital devices are influencing in-store retail sales, consumers still want physical stores. In fact, Q2 2015 research from the e-tailing group for B2C Partners found that shoppers had plenty of positive things to say about the utility of brick-and-mortar locations despite also recognizing the conveniences of digital.
