“Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra,” the 30-minute live local show, celebrates its on-air anniversary on KAZA. “Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra” debuted on KAZA, Azteca America’s flagship station, last April at 9:30 p.m. PT and remains the only local live Spanish-language sports show broadcast in the Los Angeles market. The program, hosted by sportscaster Troy Santiago and Nayzeth Carrillo, has become popular with “Viernes Futbolero” soccer fans by providing an opportunity to get thousands of dollars in sweepstakes and contests, game highlights, stats and analysis, in-depth commentary and results of the live Mexican League matches that aired minutes prior.
“‘Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra,’ reflects Azteca’s commitment to outstanding sports programming, arising from the increasing need to provide the Los Angeles Spanish-speaking viewers with live, up-to-the-minute coverage of their favorite sports teams,” said Jose Luis Padilla, Vice President and General Manager, KAZA and Regional VP of West Coast Managed Stations, Azteca America. “We’re thrilled that the show has been embraced by the community and has exceeded expectations from a viewership perspective.”
KAZA recently hosted a star-studded event for the community featuring a musical performance by Rocio, La Dama de La Cumbia y Su Sonora as well as the live viewing of two Mexican soccer league matches. The evening culminated in a live taping of “Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra” that captured all the excitement and aired that evening.
Since its debut, “Viernes Futbolero Tiempo Extra” has become a destination for families to share their love of sports and to see their favorite sports personalities and musical bands up close and personal. In the last year, Claudio Suarez “El Emperador,” El Perro Aguayo, Mariano Trujillo, Alvaro Izquierdo and Jessie Lozada, were among the many local talent and soccer stars that stopped by the studio. Musical performances included the bands Los Rehenes del Norte, Montez de Durango, Banda Maguey, Huracanes del Norte, Grupo Pesado and Fuerza Tijuana.
The show also has attracted an impressive group of sponsors including Toyota, Time Warner Cable, Nissan, California Lottery, Kia and McDonald’s.
