Azteca America announces the premiere of El Beso del Escorpión

Azteca America announces the premiere of “El Beso del Escorpión” (“O Beijo do Escorpião”), a Portuguese telenovela produced by António Barreira and João Matos.  Starring Sara Matos, Dalila Carmo, and Pedro Lima, “El Beso del Escorpión” is coming to Azteca America starting March 6 at 10 am/ 9 C.

“El Beso del Escorpión” tells two interwoven stories: the first is the story of Rita (Dalila Carmo) and Alice (Sara Matos), two women who discover they are sisters after the death of their mother.

From the moment they meet, Rita attempts to bring Alice into her own immediate circle.  Alice is dazzled by her sister’s lifestyle, the result of a successful and prestigious career in business and her marriage to Fernando (Pedro Lima).

Rita is unaware that her sister Alice is actually a social climber who entered her life in order to exact revenge.  Alice intends to take Rita’s place and destroy everything Rita has worked for.

Alice has no scruples and moves into her sister’s house, passing herself off as a good person in order to take her sister’s house, job, money, and even her family.

The story of Rita and Alice intertwines with the story of Paulo (Pedro Carvalho) and Miguel(Duarte Gomes), two private-jet pilots who discover a homosexual attraction to each other after a night of partying.  Paulo is married to a man, but keeps his sexual orientation hidden from others, while Miguel is a homophobe who is driven into a deep personal crisis.

Shot in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Lisbon, Portugal, “El Beso del Escorpión” presents an emotional look at the lives of ordinary people and the way in which they face problems in life – especially when they, or those closest to them, are the main obstacles in their paths.
