REGGAETON’S POP Culture movement leads the Calle Ocho Festival

The first Colombian King of Carnaval—five-time GRAMMY® winner Fonseca, headlined the Calle Ocho Music Festival, the one-day fiesta that culminates Carnaval Miami, with a multicultural mix of reggaeton music artists, among other genres, along the 20 block music festival. 

“The Calle Ocho Music Festival in the heart of Little Havana —where Miami’s microcosm of culture, music, food and the arts come together— joins nuestra comunidad LatinX to celebrate the community’s cultural richness by bringing the rhythms and vibe from all over Latin America, the Caribbean and the U.S.,” stated Jesus Lebeña, President, Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, Calle Ocho Music Festival organizers.  “LatinX musical artists lead today’s pop culture movement with reggaeton as its centerpiece.  We are thrilled to take center stage this year with some of the best performers, where every musical stage will have a reggaeton infusion!”

Sons of legendary singer Ricardo Montaner— Mau y Ricky— opened for Fonseca in an outpour of love to the Venezuelan community.  Joining them was Peruvian singer, dancer and model Leslie Shaw, performing her new song Faldita featuring Mau Y Ricky together live for the first time.  And Colombian singer and songwriter, Camilo, who also performed with Mau y Ricky their hit song Desconocidos.

Among numerous favorite reggaeton artists taking the stage included:  multi GRAMMY® winning Cuban duo, Gente de Zona; DJ extraordinaire and one of the earliest boosters of reggaeton, Alex Sensation; solo artist and former member of Made in Cuba and Gente de Zona, Jacob Forever; producer turned singer, Sech; former basketball player El Micha; El Chacal and many more.   

Fonseca joined over 50 Latinx artists performing across 10 music stages throughout 20 blocks of energizing entertainment with a host of Latin styles ranging from reggaeton, pop, tropical to salsa, vallenato and hip hop.
