Telemundo announces 3rd Season of “LA REINA DEL SUR”

Following the May reveal of its 2020-21 season lineup and as part of NBCUniversal’s “30 Rock: A One-Time Special” Upfront event airing tonight at 8pm ET/PT on NBC, Telemundo announced international superstar Kate del Castillo (Bad Boys for Life, The 33, Ingobernable, Weeds, All About Nina) will reprise her role as Teresa Mendoza in a third season of “La Reina del Sur.” With a renewed focus on innovative and multiplatform content serving today’s hyper-connected consumers, Telemundo brings back for another season the original series that propelled the network to the top of the charts and kicked off Telemundo’s Super Series™ franchise as the most successful Super Series™ in the network’s history.

NBCUniversal’s upfront special will celebrate the stories and talent featured across its properties in the upcoming 2020-21 television season. The new format reflects the increasingly direct relationship between NBCUniversal, its fans and its partners, and allows all audiences to tune in for a sneak peek at the future of NBCUniversal’s programming. The hour-long, commercial-free event to premiere on NBC will be rebroadcast across USA Network, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, and CNBC as well as available to stream on Peacock on Friday, July 17. The upfront special follows Telemundo’s May unveiling of its next season’s programming lineup including popular returning shows “Enemigo Intimo,” “Falsa Identidad” and “Exatlon;” as well as new series “Café con Aroma de Mujer,” “Buscando a Frida,” “La Suerte de Loli” and “Malverde,” and its new reality competition “El Domo del Dinero.”

“Teresa Mendoza has always received tremendous response from her fans and I’m thrilled to be able to once again be part of this legendary series and bring them the new season that they have been asking for,” added Kate del Castillo.  “Teresa Mendoza’s character gets even more interesting with each chapter of her life, continually teaching me new things along the way.  I’m excited to see what surprises Teresa has in store for us this time.”

The return of “La Reina del Sur” comes at a time when Telemundo continues to shape a new era in Hispanic media with premium content exclusively made for Latinos living in the US looking for culture-centric stories that are both American and Latino.  Telemundo’s original productions connect with this growing audience and relate to their reality through powerful storylines and characters, as well as news and sports content, that are relevant to their American journey.Also scheduled to reprise their roles in this upcoming season are Isabella Sierra (La Reina del Sur 2, 100 Días para Enamorarnos,) Humberto Zurita (La Querida del Centauro, La Reina del Sur, Bajo la Metralla, Luna De Sangre,) Kika Edgar (La Reina del Sur 2, Amor Real, Mujeres Asesinas,) Lincoln Palomeque (La Reina del Sur, Señora Acero, Santa Diabla,) Emmanuel Orenday (La Reina del Sur, Operación Pacífico, Señora Acero,) and Dmitry Anisimov (La Reina del Sur,) among others.

Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Global Studios, will serve as Showrunner and Executive Producer of this new season. “La Reina del Sur” Season 3 is a co-production between Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix.  Telemundo has the exclusive rights in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and Netflix has the exclusive rights for the rest of the world on OTT.
