Premios Soberano to Air Exclusively on Televisión Dominicana in the US and Puerto Rico

Televisión Dominicana has announced that it will air exclusive coverage of the Soberano Awards (Premios Soberano), the most important show business event in the Dominican Republic. The 2021 Soberano Awards will be hosted by personalities Caroline Aquino and Clarissa Molina, and will feature special guests and performances by some of the biggest names in Dominican entertainment, as well as a special tribute to the late Johnny Pacheco.

The storied awards show, which will be held on June 8 of this year, took a hiatus in 2020 as a result of the global pandemic; a mainstay of the Dominican community, the Soberano Awards have been presented annually by the Art Critics Association (Asociación de Cronistas de Arte) in Santo Domingo since 1985.

Leading up to the event, Televisión Dominicana will broadcast complimentary programming starting with live coverage of the Premios Soberano Nominees show (Nominados Premios Soberano), presented by model, director and actress Isaura Taveras and actor and host Albert Mena, on Tuesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. ET. Additionally, the network will offer news capsules focusing on developments around the awards, behind-the-scenes coverage, as well as the Journey to the Soberano Awards (Rumbo a Premios Soberano) program and the awards Pre-Show and Red Carpet.

We are extremely pleased to serve as the exclusive U.S. broadcast hosts of the most important artistic awards show for the Dominican community and to offer this valuable cultural connection for Dominicans living in the mainland U.S. and Puerto Rico,” said Francisco Gimenez, Senior Vice President and General Manager of cable channels for Hemisphere Media Group, Inc., the network’s parent company. “The Soberano Awards celebrate the top achievements and contributions made by Dominican artists—and currently, it is the only award show in the country recognizing all that Dominican talent has to offer. The show is also a vital economic driver for the Dominican Republic. We’re thrilled to bring our viewers closer to the event’s excitement, while simultaneously supporting the growth of the Dominican entertainment industry and helping to promote all of its incredible talent.”
