Telemundo Studios unveils original production slate for 2022 -2023

Telemundo Studios, the scripted production unit of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, revealed its slate of original productions set to begin filming in 2022 and 2023.  Hosted by Karen Barroeta, Executive Vice President of Production and Development for Telemundo Global Studios, the presentation kicked off with the news of the return of International Emmy® award-winning Super Series™, El Señor de los Cielos (Lord of the Skies), together with the long-awaited return of Rafael Amaya to reprise his iconic role of Aurelio Casillas for an eighth season.

Other productions announced at the virtual event include new action dramas El Conde (The Count – working titles,) starring renowned Mexican actor Fernando Colunga; Todos los Nombres de Aura (Aura’s Many Names – working titles,) starring Blanca Soto; and Culpable o Inocente (Guilty or Innocent – working titles.) Two new anthology series going into production are: Cuando Habla una Mujer (When a Woman Speaks – working titles,) the first on-screen adaptation stemming from the recently acquired library of the best-selling Spanish-language writer of all time, Corín Tellado; and El Doctor de los Milagros (The Miracle Doctor – working titles,) a compilation of faith-filled stories inspired on the beatified Venezuelan physician known for treating the poor.

In addition to the announcement of the upcoming new productions, Barroeta touted the highly anticipated return of Pasion de Gavilanes II (Hidden Passion II) which premiered on Telemundo last night, as well as La Mujer de Mi Vida (The Woman of My Life), a new melodrama starring Angelica Celaya, Iván Sánchez, Mauricio Islas and Catherine Siachoque that recently concluded filming at the network’s state of the art sound stages at Telemundo Center. The event closed out with a first look at the trailer for the third installment of Telemundo’s top rated Super Series™ La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South,) starring international phenom, Kate del Castillo reprising her iconic role of Teresa Mendoza. These last two titles are both scheduled to debut on Telemundo later this year.

Action-Drama Series

El Señor de los Cielos Season 8

Telemundo’s longest running Super Series™ created by Luis Zelkowicz, inspired on the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the Juarez cartel, follows the life of Aurelio Casillas (Amaya), a drug lord known for smuggling substances to Mexico, Colombia and the United States. All eyes will be anxiously waiting to see what will happen in this upcoming season with Rafael Amaya’s return.

El Conde (working title)

Starring renowned Mexican actor, Fernando Colunga (Pasión y Poder, Porque el Amor Manda, Alborada,) this original story by Sandra Velasco tells the story of Alejandro Galán, the victim of a conspiracy in which he is accused of assassinating a political candidate and sentenced to prison. Upon his escape, he will recover a secret treasure left to him by a Spanish nobleman who became his mentor. Now as a count, he enters the world of politics to execute his revenge.

Todos los Nombres de Aura (working title)

An original story by Luis Zelkowicz (Lord of the Skies), this action-drama stars Blanca Soto (You Cannot Hide, Lady of Steel) as Aura Mateo, together with Rafael Amaya (El Señor de los Cielos). Aura is a complex woman with so many different personalities and names that she no longer knows who she really is. By profession, she is a delightful and witty con-artist, leader of a family of swindlers who play hard hiding many truths. Falling in love is not part of her master plan until life shows her plans are made to be changed. Will she choose to protect the family business or allow love to take over her empty nest?

Culpable o Inocente (working title)

The plot of this new thriller/drama centers on the disappearance of Adriana Molina and her husband, César Ferrer who is believed to be the prime suspect in her possible murder. Determined to prevent his eight-year-old daughter from being taken from him, César decides to take the investigation into his own hands. In his search for the probable motives of his wife’s disappearance, César discovers Adriana lived a double life, and that she is not the person everyone believed her to be, for better or worse.

Anthology Series

Cuando Habla una Mujer (working title)

Following TGS’ acquisition of Corin Tellado’s extensive library of 4000+ titles, Cuando Habla una Mujer will be the first production stemming from this deal. This anthology series will be based on Tellado’s popular short novels with stories revolving around love, heartbreak, injustice, and personal growth. The modern-day adaptations of Tellado’s captivating stories will become powerful television stories that portray the voice of Latin women, their conflicts, challenges, and desires. Each episode will highlight a different story brought to life by different casts.

El Doctor de los Milagros (working title)

El Doctor de los Milagros is a compilation of faith-filled stories inspired on the miracles of José Gregorio Hernández, the beatified Venezuelan doctor known as the doctor of the poor or the doctor of miracles. The dramatic episodes will reflect the reality and the conflicts of the Spanish-speaking population and the diverse Latin American cultures. It will be a tribute to faith and humanity.
