Televisa/Univision Brings “Cristina” Back — At Least for One Night, TONIGHT!  

Almost without announcement, except for some exciting chatting on this morning’s Despierta America, Televisa/Univision is bringing back the iconic television personality, Cristina Saralegui.   The event happens tonight at 7 pm (6pm Central) when she will interview Karol G.

What the network is planning with this soft launch is unknown to the industry.  The news of the event has come out on several digital outlets, including Ceriani’s program.  Listening to the hosts of Despierta America this morning, it felt like Televisa/Univision is aiming for an inter-generational audience.  The network has not offered details as to whether the program will be broadcast every Monday or if this is just a one-off.   Cristina Saralegui and her producer – manager- husband, Marcos Avila – had practically retired from the business.

A previous successful show on Univision for many years, “Cristina” left that network and joined Telemundo later on for a shorter stay.  Over the last four years, Univision has brought the celebrity journalist back for intermittent appearances on Despierta America.  Known by many as the Latina Oprah, Cristina Saralegui was a heavy ratings achiever for both networks.   It will be interesting to watch her interview with Karol G tonight.

According to the Colombian singer, she wanted to launch her newest album via an interview with Cristina. “She reminds me of my past watching her show with my family. This is very emotional for me,” said Karol G.
