Noticias Telemundo Wins 2025 Walter Cronkite Award For Excellence In Political Journalism

Noticias Telemundo has been recognized with a 2025 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political Journalism for its primetime news special “100 Días de Trump.” The special, which aired in March, took an in-depth look at President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office.

Established in 2001 and presented by the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, the Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Political Journalism recognize outstanding political journalism on television and digital media that meets the highest standards of reporting and analysis.

Anchored by Julio Vaqueiro, the special featured reporting segments from a team of Noticias Telemundo correspondents on the Trump administration’s major initiatives and interviews with lawmakers and ordinary Latinos impacted by the policies.

Award judges wrote the special “excels at documenting” the first 100 days, adding its “excellent storytelling comprehensively represents the viewpoint of an audience that goes unheard…that the media and politicians talk about yet rarely talk to… in a meaningful way.”

The recognition comes as Noticias Telemundo, the only Spanish-language news outlet honored in this year’s Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Political Journalism, strengthens its position as a preferred news source for Latinos. The flagship Noticias Telemundo newscast anchored by Julio Vaqueiro is the fastest-growing broadcast evening news program regardless of language, according to Nielsen data.
