Amancio Victor Suarez, 89, of Coral Gables, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026. Born in Cuba, Amancio lived a life defined by vision, resilience, and purpose.
A proud Cuban and pioneering entrepreneur, Amancio Suarez played a defining role in shaping the voice and spirit of the Cuban exile community in Miami. He was the owner of the radio facility that became WAQI-AM “Radio Mambí,” which under his leadership grew into one of the most influential Spanish-language talk radio stations in the United States and a powerful voice for the Cuban-American community. He later founded Radio Ritmo, further expanding his impact on Spanish-language broadcasting and strengthening the cultural and civic presence of the community.
Deeply devoted to the community, Amancio contributed meaningfully to Miami’s cultural, media, and business landscape. He was also a visionary in sports and an early supporter of professional athletics in South Florida. He was the owner of the Miami Freedom and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and a limited partner of the Miami Heat, reflecting his belief in the power of sports to unite communities and inspire future generations.
Through his vision and determination, Amancio helped preserve the identity, traditions, and voice of a community determined to remain connected to its roots while building a future in freedom.
His legacy helped shape the Miami we know today.
