Nielsen Launches Mobile Survey To Modernize Radio Measurement.

After years in the making, Nielsen is taking radio audience measurement into the mobile era with the official launch of its Nielsen mobile survey (mSurvey), beginning with the Spring 2026 survey period. The new platform complements the traditional Diary service by allowing respondents to report listening electronically on their smartphones, expanding participation and improving accuracy.

The move marks a major evolution for Nielsen’s Diary methodology, the company says. By meeting listeners where they spend their time, mSurvey is designed to drive higher engagement, particularly among younger and more diverse demographics. As previously reported by Inside Radio, the shift comes after years of testing, panelist feedback, and engineering to ensure the updated platform maintains the reliability stations and advertisers rely on.

“We’ve heard feedback calling for continued innovation, and mSurvey represents a foundational step forward,” Nielsen said in an announcement. The initial rollout will focus on households most likely to include Black, young, and/or renting residents, while traditional Diary collection continues for other homes. Nielsen plans to test additional demographic groups in future survey periods.
