Teens give back to Community at L.A. Works Volunteer Day.

With paint rollers in hand and plenty of elbow grease to spare, thirty teenagers from local community centers pitched in to help beautify the Vermont Ave. headquarters of another youth-serving organization during the annual L.A. Works volunteer day, held Saturday, June 3. The event was sponsored in part by the Majestic Realty Foundation.

The volunteers, who are all members of the Majestic Realty Foundation’s Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council (LAYLC), spent their Saturday morning painting at Challenger’s Boys & Girls Club.

“The young people in our group are all active in their own neighborhood youth centers, so this is a chance for them to give back to an organization that helps kids who are just like them,” said Meghan Loper, Majestic Realty Foundation program coordinator.

“It is great to see these kids taking pride in their community by helping to beautify the grounds here at Challenger’s Boys & Girls Club,” Loper added. “These wonderful kids are freely giving their spare time to help other kids. They are setting a wonderful example for our community.”

The student volunteers came from the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth and Community Center, Heart of Los Angeles Youth (HOLA), and Para los Ninos.

L.A. Works was founded in 1991 by a group of concerned citizens from the entertainment, business and government sectors to increase volunteer participation in community service projects and to provide community service organizations with access to volunteer labor and other resources.

Founded and sponsored by the Majestic Realty Foundation, LAYLC is a team-building and leadership development organization that brings together high school students from six inner city youth centers: Bresee Foundation, El Centro del Pueblo, HOLA, Para los Ninos, Salesian Boys & Girls Club of LA, and the Salvation Army/Red Shield.

Established in 2002, the Majestic Realty Foundation provides grants and other support to various charitable community partners that work the areas of youth, family, education, and health and violence prevention in the communities where Majestic Realty Co., one of the nation’s leading private commercial real estate developers, does business. www.majesticfoundation.org.
