Soccer Scores In Spanish With Hispanic Radio Consumers

Spanish-language radio stations across the U.S. serve an important purpose – to educate, inform, and entertain a large segment of media consumers who prefer to engage in programming that unique speaks to them. Even as the percentage of English-preferred Latinos continues to rise, consumption of Spanish-language radio remains strong – and is predicted to stay this way for many years. Stations offering sports programming in Spanish are a vital part of Hispanic radio’s long-term growth. In an exclusive three-part interview with Adam R Jacobson, Futbol de Primera chairman and legendary soccer play-by-play announcer Andrés Cantor offers his view on why marketers and advertisers should patronize Spanish Sports stations.

Adam: Why is Sports Radio in Spanish so important to advertisers seeking to reach Hispanic consumers?

Andres: Hispanics prefer to listen to soccer in its native language, and with the special flavor only the best announcers can give the game. Soccer is about the passion, and Hispanics will always relate to play-by-play in their language, with the broadcasters that can reciprocate the feelings of the listeners.

Adam: What is it about the passion of Sports and Latinos that makes Futbol de Primera such an in-demand product, especially when it is time for the World Cup?

Andres: It’s always time for premium World Class soccer. In addition to our FIFA World Cup property, we also have the Mexican National Team International home and away friendly matches, the second most-desired property to the World Cup. We also have the CONCACAF 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches. With this incredible lineup, we have spared no expense to put together the very best broadcasts, bar none. Our play by play is led by myself, along with a broadcast team made up of journalists, past World Cup players, coaches, and experts. We even have a FIFA referee for those heated calls.

In addition to our daily team members Sammy Sadovnik, Rosa Sanchez, and Jamie Gallardo, we will always have soccer legends and iconic figures to give our listeners the respect and knowledge from many angles. This formula of success, coupled with our impressive station lineup, gives listeners much more than just sports programming. The programming is great, and the listeners are eager to listen to FDP’s station partners more and more. We can humbly say that no one in the U.S. assembles such an all-star team in the booth and over the air like FDP Radio.

Part Two of our conversation with Andrés Cantor appears in our Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference coverage distributed Thursday, March 22.
