The 2004 Copa Sudamericana Tournament To Feature Top LatAM Teams.

Argentine teams, Arsenal and Bansfield, will open the 2004 Copa Sudamericana soccer tournament on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Fox Sports en Español will again offer live coverage of the entire five-month tournament including all elimination rounds, playoffs and finals. All Copa Sudamericana games will be played Tuesday through Thursday during the initial elimination phase.

A total of 54 games will be played during this year’s competition. Thirty-five teams representing 10 Latin American countries including Argentina (6), Brazil (12), Bolivia (2), Chile (2), Colombia (2), Ecuador (2), Paraguay (2), Perú (3), Uruguay (2), and Venezuela (2) will participate this year playing a series of eliminatory home and away games. Of the 35 teams participating, 12 competed in this year’s Copa Toyota Libertadores including Argentina’s Boca Juniors and River Plate; Brazilian teams Santos, Sao Caetano, Coritiba, Cruzeiro, and Sao Paolo; Peru’s Ciencano, Bolivia’s Boliviar, Paraguay’s Libertad, Uruguay’s Peñarol, and Ecuador’s Liga Deportiva de Quito. The winner of the Copa Sudamericana tournament will confront Once Caldas of Colombia, the winner of the 2004 Copa Toyota Libertadores tournament, for the Recopa Sudamericana in 2005.
