With a total of $170,000 in cash prizes, including the coveted $100,000 Grand Prize, the annual Radio-Mercury Awards competition draws entries from advertising agencies, production houses, and Radio stations across the country.
The competition awards thirteen $5,000 cash prizes: nine from the General Category; one each from the Spanish-Language and Station-Produced Categories; the 30-Second Spot Category; and new to the competition, the Urban Category. Finalists in the above categories are eligible to compete for the $100,000 Radio-Mercury Award Grand Prize. The Public Service Announcement (PSA) Category Award provides a $2,500 donation in the winner’s name to the charity of their choice. The Radio-Mercury Student Award grants $2,500 to the winning school, college, or university. Every winner receives the spectacular Radio-Mercury Awards trophy.
“Getting the Grand Prize Mercury Award was a great thrill for our agency,” stated Sal DeVito, Chief Creative Officer of 2006 Grand Prize-winning agency DeVito/Verdi. “Winning any Radio-Mercury Award, or even making it into the final round, is a wonderful opportunity for young creatives to show their skills.”
Entry fee for the 2007 Radio-Mercury Awards is $100 per commercial. PSA and Student entries are $30 each. Entries must be received by Monday, March 12, 2007, and must have aired for the first time between January 1 and December 31, 2006, on a commercially licensed U.S. Radio station. The Radio-Mercury Awards were established in 1992 to encourage and reward the development of effective and creative Radio commercials. Approximately 15,000 commercials have competed for nearly $2.7 million in prizes. The Radio Creative Fund (RCF), a non-profit corporation funded by the Radio industry, governs the Radio-Mercury Awards.
