October 14, 2015
Beginning Thursday, October 15, Dominicans and Hispanics living in the U.S. will be able to tune in to the Dominican Professional Baseball Winter League exclusively on Television Dominicana. Viewers can enjoy up to seven games per week. The 2015-2016 regular season will run through December, with playoffs beginning in January.
“Baseball is by far the most important sport in the Dominican Republic, which is the birthplace of hundreds of current and former MLB players,” said Francisco Gimenez, General Manager of Cable Networks for Hemisphere Media Group, Inc. the network’s parent company. “We are proud to be the exclusive home of the Dominican Professional Baseball Winter League, and to connect the Dominicans living stateside with their national sport on the island.”
The Dominican Professional Baseball Winter League (LIDOM, for its Spanish acronym), has been an incubator for many Dominican players with Major League aspirations, and has been the home to many top-tier talents such as current Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols. Veterans and former stars of the game, such as Manny Ramirez, Vladimir Guerrero and Sammy Sosa, have also participated in the League.
LIDOM is composed of six teams, each representing major municipalities on the island. The season will open on October 15 with the highly-anticipated live matchup between “Los Tigres del Licey” (The Licey Tigers) and “Los Leones del Escogido” (The Escogido Lions).
