57th Caribbean World Series @ Fox Sports en Español.

Fox Sports en Español has acquired the exclusive U.S. Spanish-language television rights to the 57th Caribbean World Series of baseball, to be held next month in Venezuela. The four-team, six-day tournament, to be televised for the eighth consecutive year on Fox Sports en Español, will kick off Thursday, February 2 at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT with a match-up between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Defending 2005 champion Mexico takes on host Venezuela later that day at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

“A love of baseball runs deep in the veins of Latin American sports fans,” said David Sternberg, executive vice president and general manager of Fox Sports en Español. “We’re proud to be the only Spanish-language network in the U.S. to carry the Caribbean World Series and to offer our viewers an exclusive glimpse of their favorite big-league stars in action.”

The Caribbean World Series, first held in 1949 in Havana, Cuba, will take place this year in the Venezuelan cities of Valencia and Maracay. The champions of the Dominican, Puerto Rican, Venezuelan and Mexican winter leagues will compete in an exciting 12-game round-robin series that will decide the new Caribbean champion. Last year, host Mexico edged the Dominican Republic 4-3 in the deciding game to win the title.

In addition to the Caribbean World Series, Fox Sports en Español’s signature Spanish-language baseball programming includes exclusive coverage of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series.
