Consumers see little Difference between National and Store Brands.

Consumers from around the world feel strongly that store brands are the same as, or better than, national brands at providing a variety of benefits. This is the latest finding from a study conducted by Ipsos Marketing, Consumer Goods.

Off Air and Pay TV distinct viewing habits in Puerto Rico.

It’s well known that homes equipped with subscription cable TV and Satellite services (“Pay TV”) have a greater number of viewing choices including local channels, imported TV channels from outside Puerto Rico, special video services such as on-demand movies, special events and digital recorders that allow viewers to record and then playback programs at a later time. With so many viewing choices, it is not surprising to learn that Pay TV homes and homes with only off-air TV reception are statistically different in terms of their level of TV viewing and TV channel/program viewing behaviors.

U.S. Birth Rate decline linked to Recession.

Birth rates in the United States began to decline in 2008 after rising to their highest level in two decades, and the decrease appears to be linked to the recession, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of state fertility and economic data.

Nielsen launches TV Rating in Puerto Rico.

The Nielsen Company launched television audience measurement in Puerto Rico on April 1.

TV ratings in Puerto Rico are being collected from a sample of 500 homes chosen through Nielsen’s rigorous random area probability sampling techniques to accurately represent all demographics and regions of the island of Puerto Rico.

Recessionary Impact: Fewer shopping trips & less spending per trip.

A consistent pattern of reduced shopping trips continues to be a major element of consumer’s economic coping strategies. In the latest battle for share of wallet, those retailers who satisfy consumers through differentiation will gain more of less.

Young People make up large proportion of Census Hold-Outs.

A large majority of Americans say they will participate in the census: 87% say they definitely or probably will fill out and return their forms, or have already done so. But in a recent Pew Research Center survey, 12% still said they may not participate — 5% might or might not, 4% probably will not and 3% definitely will not fill out and return their census forms.

The Impact of the Internet on Institutions in the Future.

By an overwhelming margin, technology experts and stakeholders participating in a survey fielded by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project and Elon University’s Imagining the Internet Center believe that innovative forms of online cooperation could result in more efficient and responsive for-profit firms, non-profit organizations, and government agencies by the year 2020. UPDATE: Statistical Profiles of the Hispanic and Foreign-Born Populations in the U.S.

The Pew Hispanic Center recently updated its statistical profiles of Hispanics and foreign-born people in the U.S. The profiles are derived from the Census Bureau’s 2008 American Community Survey (ACS), the most recent available.

Latinos and the 2010 Census: The Foreign Born are more Positive.

Foreign-born Hispanics are more positive and knowledgeable about the 2010 U.S. Census than are native-born Hispanics, according to a nationwide survey of 1,003 Latino adults conducted March 16-25, 2010, by the Pew Hispanic Center.

Overall, seven-in-ten (70%) Hispanics say the census is good for the Hispanic community. However, foreign-born Hispanics are more likely than native-born Hispanics to feel this way-80% versus 57%. DOWNLOAD REPORT HERE.

Puerto Rico Internet and PC growth continues.

The recently released TGI Survey confirms that in spite of ongoing economic stress in the Puerto Rico economy, island households continue to expand their personal computer ownership and Internet access in the home. PC ownership and Internet access are currently 34%, confirming that the historical gap between the two statistics has been eliminated with virtually all PC owning homes now having some means of Internet access.

Census: County and Metro Area Population Estimates for 2009.

The U.S. Census Bureau released July 1, 2009, population estimates for each of the nation’s counties and metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas.

Americans using TV & Internet together 35% more.

Americans increased their overall media usage and media multitasking according to The Nielsen Company’s latest Three Screen Report, which tracks consumption across TV, Internet and mobile phones. In the last quarter of 2009, simultaneous use of the Internet while watching TV reached three and a half hours a month, up 35% from the previous quarter. Nearly 60% of TV viewers now use the Internet once a month while also watching TV.

Teens value Doing Good more than Making Money.

Teens entering the workforce today face one of the worst recessions in decades but remain optimistic about their future careers.
