Telemundo’s Don Brown to address HACR symposium.

Telemundo announced that its President, Don Browne, will address business and corporate leaders on May 18th in San Francisco at the 18th Annual Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) Symposium. Browne will join the HACR CEO Roundtable hosted by John Stumpf, Chairman and CEO of Wells Fargo & Company and participant Stephen Holmes, Chairman & CEO of Wyndham Worldwide.

Nickels, Dimes, Tortillas: How Micro-finance is Empowering Latin Women.

Today returning to the show is Lynne Randolph Patterson, Co-Founder and Director of Pro Mujer International in New York. Pro Mujer is a 20-year-old women’s development and microfinance organization and network, operating in Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. Pro Mujer’s mission is to provide Latin American women from the poorest backgrounds with the means and skills to build a better future for themselves and their families. Since our last interview with Lynne last year, there have been quite a few new developments with the organization so we invited her to sit down with us again and talk a little bit about them. Preserving ‘Mexicaness’.

Multiculturalism is a hot topic today. The population of the U.S. is changing, and the results of the census are really going to drive this fact home for a lot of folks who don’t realize how diverse the U.S. population has become over the past decade. Multiculturalism is the topic for today’s column, but rather than writing what I think it means, I decided to seek the assistance of my wife, Lorea Canales, a Mexican journalist and writer. She just penned a piece on what “Mexicaness” means to her for the Web site of a very good friend of ours, New York City restaurateur Zarela Martinez.

I thought it was interesting that this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month seemed to stretch into two months–Latinos were all over the news in November. And that’s a good thing. But in looking at the events of this past month, I couldn’t help but think back at the unheralded success of a Mexican girl from North Carolina. Her achievement, while immersing herself in something so American, speaks volumes about our future in this country.

Giving a Face & Soul to Latino Immigrants.

Tony Hernandez is President of the Latino Broadcasting Company, a minority owned, nationally syndicated radio network. Tony is also the head of the Immigrant Archive Project, an independent national initiative dedicated to preserving the biographies of America’s Latino immigrant population. Latino immigrants from all countries tell their stories in their own words on recorded interviews, which will later be shared on the radio, internet, traveling education and art installations.
