The Cost of Spam.
Spam is the scourge of the Internet. It clogs inboxes, crashes servers, wastes time and money and is an abuse of privacy. More than half of the two trillion e-mail messages sent in 2006 are likely to be spam. According to the anti-spam Web site Spamhaus Project, about 200 spammers worldwide are responsible for about 80% of all spam in Europe and North America. There are an estimated 2,300 spammers in the US.
21st Annual Imagen Awards honors film and television actors.
A number of popular Latino actors were honored tonight at the 21st Annual Imagen Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Hosted by Lorenzo Lamas, sixteen awards were presented in categories including film and television, plus The Imagen Foundation presented five additional awards including Creative Achievement, Lifetime Achievement, President’s Award, the Norman Lear Award, and the Foundation’s first National Leadership Award.
Census: data show key population changes across nation.
From Santa Barbara to Tallahassee and Birmingham to Santa Fe, the U.S. Census Bureau released for the first time key demographic and social data for areas with populations of 65,000 or more – an updated look at how the nation’s population has changed, and the first for many communities since Census 2000.
60% of advertising and marketing executives anticipate increased hiring.
According to The Creative Group’s annual hiring survey, a majority of employers within the creative field plan to hire in the coming year. Sixty percent of advertising and marketing executives polled said their firms plan to increase staffing levels in the next 12 months. Nearly half (49 percent) of respondents said their company’s efforts to attract new talent have increased in the past year. Placing want ads, networking and enlisting the help of staffing firms were the most commonly cited recruiting tactics.
