Whether you’re at an agency or an in-house marketing team, the consumer is at the center of everything you do.

It seems strange that just a few months ago I critiqued ad agencies as part of my sales pitch. I didn’t criticize just Hispanic ad agencies, but the entire ad industry.

21st Imagen Awards honorees in film & television.

A number of popular Latino actors were honored at the 21st Annual Imagen Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Hosted by Lorenzo Lamas, sixteen awards were presented in categories including film and television, plus The Imagen Foundation presented five additional awards including Creative Achievement, Lifetime Achievement, President’s Award, the Norman Lear Award, and the Foundation’s first National Leadership Award. The Imagen Awards were established in 1985 to encourage and recognize the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media and to increase Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry.

IAB announces a distinct Hispanic category for the MIXX Awards.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the IAB Hispanic Committee announced the addition of a separate category for the MIXX Awards focused specifically on Interactive advertising targeted towards the Hispanic community. The addition of this new category is part of an ongoing effort by IAB’s Hispanic Committee to further educate advertisers and agencies on the marketing benefits and value of using Interactive to reach the Hispanic community.

Pager-like device may be reason for lower listening levels with PPM.

A recent radio study shows 35% to 40% of participants in the study are more likely to routinely carry a cell phone than a pager device to measure radio audiences.

Creative ad awards honor Hispanic print media campaigns.

The National Association of Hispanic Press (NAHP) will be holding a contest for creativity in Hispanic print media. The winners of the contest will be eligible to receive prizes in a variety of categories as well as participate at the Awards Reception Banquet at the Allegro Hotel in Chicago on August 25.

Avoid lines at airports.

According to a recent report from SITA (Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques), online plane ticket sales will make up 28% of all airline ticket sales in 2006, up from 20% in 2005. This means that of the 2 billion airline passengers worldwide, approximately 560 million use the Internet to make their bookings.

Sprint announced the results of “Women in a Wireless World,” a compilation of female-centric data points from recent Sprint surveys. The findings show that 89 percent of female wireless-phone subscribers say their wireless phone is a time-saver and more than 50 percent make at least half of their calls from their wireless phone.
