Al Día Receives Katie Award.

Al Día was the recipient of three prestigious Katie awards, including the one for best Spanish-language newspaper in the region. It also won in general news and feature story categories for the work of staff writer Isabel Morales for her Desaparecidos-Cifra Trágica and Con Rostro Hispano stories. Among the finalists also were Al Día staffers Anabel Márquez, Francisco Rodríguez and Patricia Estrada.

“At Al Día, we are deeply committed to serving the Hispanic community of North Texas, with quality and relevant content,” said Alfredo Carbajal, managing editor.

The Katies are awarded every year by the Dallas Press Club. During this year’s ceremony, November 5th, the judges commented, “Stories in this newspaper are as good as any Spanish-language newspaper in the U.S.”

In 2004, Al Día received three Katie awards. Since its inception, Al Día has been recognized industry organizations such as the National Association of Hispanic Publications, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors.

“Al Día strives to provide unique local content to the underserved Spanish-speaking community in North Texas in a timely manner in print and online. Our staff is honored that our journalist peers have recognized our talented and dedicated staff,” said Gilbert Bailón, Publisher and Editor of Al Día.
