Andres Cantor Honored with 2020 Winner of The Colin Jose Media Award

Telemundo Deportes’ lead commentator Andres Cantor was honored during the National Soccer Hall of Fame celebrated this past Saturday, October 2 in Frisco, Texas. Cantor was honored after been named the recipient of the 2020 Colin Jose Media Award, which honors journalists whose careers have made significant long-term contributions to soccer in the United States.
Cindy Parlow Cone, President of the United States Soccer Federation presented the award to Cantor during the ceremony last Saturday, October 2. Cantor was named the winner last year during a special Telemundo Deportes broadcast but the ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic.
As the 13th recipient of the Colin Jose award, Cantor is the first Spanish-Language broadcast personality to be honored with the award, and only the third broadcast media personality regardless of language to be honored with the award since JP Dellacamera in 2018 and Seamus Malin in 2005.
The Colin Jose Media Award was created to honor the contributions of members of the print and electronic media, including reporters, columnists, authors, broadcasters, editors, public/media relations professionals and others who specialize in communications with respect to soccer in the United States. The award is named for Colin Jose, Historian Emeritus of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and the preeminent soccer historian of North America.
“I was extremely blessed to be the one bringing the emotions to American homes,” Cantor said. “I always say that soccer is a game that transcends language because it’s a very passionate game. The passion that we put behind and into the game got many people’s attention.”
Cantor’s recognition was part of the official induction to the National Soccer Hall of Fame of four new members – three from the Class of 2021 and one from the Class of 2020. Four-time Major League Soccer champion Jaime Moreno, U.S. National Team alumnus Steve Cherundolo, U.S. National Team alumnus Carlos Bocanegra, and longtime MLS executive Kevin Payne.
