Andrés Cantor named one of the Top Legendary Soccer Commentators.

Andrés Cantor is on the list of the world’s top legendary soccer commentators published by The FIFA Weekly, the official magazine of FIFA. Cantor is the only US-based, as well as Spanish-speaking commentator, included on the list published by the world’s leading soccer organization.

Cantor’s legacy has made itself felt since he narrated his first World Cup, Italy 1990.  He has narrated every FIFA World Cup since, in addition to hundreds of Mexican League games on “Fútbol Estelar” and “Barclays Premier League por Telemundo,” and Mexico’s progress in the World Cup elimination matches on “Rumbo al Mundial,” among many others.

Cantor gained international fame during the US 1994 World Cup, when his cry of “GOOOOAL!” became a national phenomenon that transcended cultural barriers and led to numerous awards and television appearances on US English-language television, on such popular shows as “The Late Show with David Letterman.” In 2000, Cantor became the first Hispanic to narrate men’s and women’s soccer in English for NBC, Telemundo’s sister network, during the Sidney Olympic Games. In the years since, he has cemented his reputation as a leading protagonist of Telemundo’s award-winning Olympic coverage.

Cantor is the winner of two Emmy® Awards, including one for lifetime achievement.  He is nominated for a Sports Emmy® in this year’s awards competition, the first time that the annual gala ceremony on English-language TV will include categories for Hispanic television.
